Project title

Colloidal decorated lignin and wood reassembly

(Co)tutors

  • Tutor: C. Crestini (UNIVE)
  • Co-Tutor: T. Stern (UG)
  • Industrial Supervisor: J. Lindner (BASF)

Objectives

  • Synthesise lignin colloid systems by a microfluidics process (nanoparticles and microcapsules);
  • Synthesise lignin colloid systems from dynamically cross-linked and hydrophobized lignins
  • Synthesise of lignin colloid systems with active loadings providing self-healing, antioxidant, antimicrobial and moisture barrier properties;
  • Exploit the developed colloidal systems i) for wood reassembly; ii) to investigate possible resins formulations with self-healing, anti-corrosive properties

Required education level

Master's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Environmental Chemistry

Preferred background

Lignin chemistry, polymer chemistry and physical chemistry, microfluidics

Secondments

  • RUG (3 months) integration of colloids in flow fractionation process (P. Deuss)

  • BASF (8 months) colloids analytics (J. Lindner)
